The Challenge Training

Monitoring Google Adsense Performance On Your WPD Micro-Niche Blog

After successfully setting up your Google Adsense account and inserting the Adsense code into your WPD micro-niche blog, now it's time to learn how to monitor the performance of those ads. In today's lesson, Emily from Wordpress Direct shows you how to monitor the performance of your Google Adsense ads and gives you some tips to follow when looking at your Google Adsense account.

Keep in mind that you are testing whether your traffic will participate in a commercial outcome using Google Adsense on your site. The test may take a few days for you to gather enough data (at least 200 impressions or more.

Emily explains what the two main data points you should be looking at are: impressions and clicks. Impressions are the number of times your add has appeared to visitors to your site, and clicks are the number of times those visitors have actually then click on the ad. The ratio between these two figures, the percentage of clicks to impressions, is called the click through rate. As you collect more and more data you will begin to see a click through rate (CTR), that can inform your decision of what to do next with your niche. You should be looking at at least 200 impressions of your ads before making any changes.

Emily demonstrates how to find the impressions, clicks and CTR in your Google Adsense account and more importantly, shows you a few things you can do to improve your ads once you have the initial 200 impressions. By clicking on the "Adsense Setup" tab, and then "Competitive Ad Filter", you can tweak a few settings that may help.

One thing you can do is create filters for ads that you do not want to have appear on your site. If you have seen any ads showing websites being that you don't want showing up on your site, you can add the URL of that site to the filter. Once it's in the filter, no ads for that site will show up on your site again. Next, you can click on the "Ad Review Center" and here you can filter categories for ads that don't want to have appear on your site. This is useful for ensuring that content you feel is inappropriate for your site doesn't appear in ads.

In Module 6, we are setting up to test commercial participation within the micro-niche. This starts by applying Google Adsense to the WPD blog, but will continue in the remainder of Module 6 by the additional promotion of an affiliate product.

Actions For The Day - 1. Login to your Google Adsense account to look at your ad stats. 2. Go to the Adsense Setup area to tweak your settings and add appropriate filters. 3. While we will be making a decision in Module 7, a decision should not be made until you have reached at least 200 ad impressions.
