The Challenge Training

Taking Notes For Your Micro-Niche Using Evernote

Today's lesson covers the importance of note taking and building a bank of information and ideas that you can use at a later time. Ed shows you how he uses a program called Evernote to take notes wherever he happens to be at the time and the process he follows.

Ed first introduces the software tool of choice in The Challenge for taking notes called Evernote. Ed takes you through the steps of downloading the Evernote software and creating an account, as well as adding the Evernote extension to Chrome. Ed also points out the available Evernote clients that can be installed on a variety of devices.

Taking you through an overview of the software, Ed creates a few sample notes using the clipper extension in Chrome and shows you how the information is saved in Evernote when you sync it. Ed explains that if you're also using Evernote on other devices like your iPhone, Android phone, iPad, etc, that your notes get synced across all of the devices.

Another powerful feature of Evernote is its ability to use tags with your notes. This gives you the ability to categorize your notes. For example, you could tag notes for use on your micro-niche blog, or you could tag notes for use on your Posterous network.

You're not restricted to just adding notes from your browser either. If using your smartphone, Ed shows you how you can take a photo and then add that photo to Evernote as well. This gives you the ability to really ensure that you take notes of anything, anywhere, that relates to your micro-niche.

If you're targeting more than one micro-niche in The Challenge, or if you can see the potential for Evernote to be used even more, Ed points out that you have the ability to create more than one notebook. This is very handy for maintaining multiple notebooks for a wide range of topics.

Evernote is completely cross-platform and integrates with a wide variety of applications, making the note taking process powerful yet simple at the same time. The more you use it, the more you will realise how valuable a tool it is.

Optional - In the final section of Ed's lesson he shares some of the more advanced strategies and tools he uses in his own workflow.
