The Challenge 2010: Module 1/Day 7 – Commercial Indicators

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Well done…you’ve made it to the 7th and final day of Module 1 for The Challenge in 2010.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day7

In today’s Day 7 video, I have the privilege of explaining the importance of finding evidence of commercial activity in the micro-niches you have been researching. It is the third stage of the keyword and market research process we have been teaching you in Module 1:

  1. Stage 1: Find a micro-niche with associated keywords that meet the traffic (SEOT > 80) and competition (SEOC < 30,000) criteria.
  2. Stage 2: Ensure there is at least one weak website currently ranking on the first page of Google for your theme keyword within the micro-niche.
  3. Stage 3: Satisfy yourself that there is evidence of commercial activity in the micro-niche.

It is much easier to make money on the Internet if somebody is already making money in the niches we target.

You have probably wondered why so much focus is placed on the keyword and market research in Module 1…well the success of all the effort we will be asking you to to through in Modules 2 to 7 is founded on how successfully you filter out the keywords that have no chance of success by following the process we teach in Module 1. I can’t stress more highly the importance of this.

As I am want to say, on the Internet…it takes the same amount of time, effort and money to fail as it does to succeed. Taking this into consideration you MUST reduce the probability of failure as much as possible and the process you follow in Module 1 will massively assist you with that goal.

Make sure that by the end of today (or during the coming off-week) you identify at least one (1) micro-niche that you can go forward with into Module 2.

See you all again at the start of Module 2 in a weeks time.

The Challenge 2010: Module 1/Day 6 – SEO Matrix Analysis

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Following on from Day 5, Dr Anthony Fernando of market Samurai explains how to analyze the SEO Matrix from the SEO Competition module of Market Samurai.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day6

Put simply, we are trying to assess the strength of competition amongst the websites currently ranking on the first page of Google for the keyword (micro-ncihe) your are investigating. A goal is to find weaker websites that have low relative authority or are not well optimized for the keyword.

It is these weaker sites that you would expect to displace from the rankings once you publish a website which has been specifically optimised both on and off the page for the keyword you are targeting.

As long as you can find at least one weak website then you can have some confidence that you can rank on the first page of Google for your keyword following the strategy we teach in The Challenge.

Your action for the day is to analyze the keywords you have found by analyzing the micro-niches you have been researching.

Tomorrow, the last day of Module 1, you will be looking for commercial indications within your micro-niches.

The Challenge 2010: Module 1/Day 5 – SEO Competition

Friday, July 16th, 2010

On Day 4 of The Challenge you will have begun to drill down through your selected markets and niches to find candidate micro-niche keywords and assessed them based on (broad-match) traffic and (phrase-match) competition using Market Samurai. This represents the first of three stages of the keyword and market research process that we are teaching in Module 1 of The Challenge.

In todays video (Day 5), Dr Anthony of Market Samurai introduces the second stage of the process where we seek to assess the strength (or quality) of the websites that are already ranking in Google for the keywords you are reviewing.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day5

It is important to note that even if you focus on keywords with low phrase-match competition, the websites optimized for those keywords may be to strong to out-rank in the short-term. In The Challenge, we are seeking to avoid those keywords (micro-niches) to increase the potential that you rank on page 1 of Google within The Challenge so you can effectively test the potential of the micro-niche you choose.

In order to test the strength or quality of competition you will be using The SEO Competition module of Market Samurai Anthony introduces today in preparation for the analysis which will be covered tomorrow.

The SEO Matrix module is one of the most powerful research tools offered by Market Samurai in assessing your selected micro-niches. It allows us to do in minutes what used to take hours and gives us a top-level assessment of the degree to which the websites currently ranking in Google have been optimized for the keywords (micro-niches) you are investigating.

The Challenge 2010: Module 1/Day 4 – Find Theme/Category Keywords

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

The preliminaries are over!

By now you should have a reasonable understanding of markets/niches/micro-niches and the importance of traffic and competition in relation to keywords on the Internet.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day4

Today, Dr Anthony will reveal how to conduct quantitative research into your niches seeking out keywords which meet The Challenge traffic and competition criteria using Market Samurai. As Ed would say, in days past this type of research took hours to do manually, but now we have Market Samurai…and as a Challenge participants you have access to all of the Market Samurai functionality during The Challenge on a free trial basis.

So if you haven’t downloaded Market Samurai yet…you can watch the following video for an introduction and instructions on where to go to download.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/pre/opt

Your actions for today are today find at least three keywords that meet the traffic and competition criteria in three of the niches that you have found over the last few days. The theme and category keywords should all meet the (traffic and competition) criteria but you will need to choose one of those keywords as the theme keyword. The theme keyword either best represents the niche you are researching or has the best traffic and competition profile of the keywords that meet the criteria.

Having researched the keywords, tomorrow we will be looking at the quality of competition for those keywords in the search engines.

The Challenge 2010: Module1/Day3 – Traffic And Competition?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Hopefully, by day 3 you are getting the hang of the whole market/niche/micro-niche concept so today, Dr Anthony from Market Samurai will be discussing in general terms the concept of keyword traffic and competition in the Search Engines (especially Google).

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day3

This is particularly important because there is no point building a website for a keyword that either has no traffic or where there is too much competition that you could never hope to easily appear on page 1 of the search engines. And if you don’t appear on page 1, you definitely won’t get very much traffic.

So we are going to gently introduce these concepts but also describe the differences between broad, phrase and exact match both in terms of traffic and competition. The paradoxical aspect is that we assess traffic potential based on a broad match (for our target keywords) while we look at competition based on a phrase match…but I’ll let Anthony explain the reasons why in more detail in the video.

No specific actions for today other than that you really understand the concepts being taught so watch the video more than once if necessary. Tomorrow, we start researching specific keywords using Market Samurai.

The Challenge 2010: Mod 1/Day 2: Finding A Niche

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Welcome to Day 2 of Module 1 in The Challenge for 2010. The subject for today is finding a niche.

http://www.challenge.co/training/2010/mod1/day2

Brent Hodgson from Noble Samurai firstly reminds us of the basics of what a niche is (covered in detail in the Day 1 video) and then gives suggestions for finding niches both online and offline.

Your action for the day is to have found at least 3 niches that you will research further in the days to come.

Try to find a niche you have at least some interest in or it’s going to be a long Challenge ahead for you.

Till the next time.
